Are hats really "out"? Hats are never out with me, but I've noticed even the people that hate hats are caught on the regular in the shapeless knitted headwear also known as a beanie. Everybody owns one, but few know how to really wear one– aside from just pulling it over their head on a bad hair day.
Because I practically eat sleep and breathe hats, I've decided to pull together three awesome and innovative ways to wear your beanie, and take it to the next level. Don't fall into a hat rut! Build your perfect headpiece!
Pick your favorite look from below and get fab!
The Tulle Veil
Purchase a half yard of veiling from the trimmings department at your local fabric store. Veiling comes in all different colors– I chose brown veiling with velvet dots. Fold the veling together along one edge and fasten to the top of your head with a hair clip. Pull your beanie over your head to conceal the clip and fix the veil so it wraps loosely around your face. Pull up the tip of the beanie so it stands tall on your head. Now you're fashion forward (wasn't that easy??).
The Turban
Pull on your beanie so the top sits flat against your head. Fold the bottom edge up to create a skull cap effect. Wrap a scarf around the back hiding the bottom edge of the hat, and the cuffed area. Bring both sides to the front and twist to make a turban knot. Allow the knot to sit against the front cuff, concealing it. Tuck both loose ends back under the wrapped scarf. Insta-turban.
The Hollywood Brim
Turn the cuff of your beanie down so there is no fold-over. Place it on your head letting it frame your face like a stocking cap. Fold over the excess fabric on the top of your head. Carefully pull a brimmed hat over the beanie, taking care to tuck excess beanie fabric into it. Pin the brimmed hat to the beanie if desired. Glam it up.
Which beanie look will you be rocking?
